How To Get Star Rating In Google Search Results

star rating

Star rating is one of the best examples of rich snippets that allows any website to stand out visible among the crowd of search results. This yellow star rating appears under the page titles in search results and makes you trustworthy.

Some companies even get an increased click-through rate as great as 20%-30% after implementing star ratings in their search results. It acts as a referral or social proofing and for this reason, people are more likely to make a purchase from your site.

If you don’t know how to get star ratings in Google Search Results, take a look at the methods described here. I have provided three different methods Let’s check them.

1st Method: Organic Review Markup Code

You can have the largest impact on your results with organic review markup code. By adding this language to a single product page, you will be able to show stars in the search result of that product. This is very ideal for the eCommerce website.

At the beginning copy the code snippet below

<div itemscope itemtype=”http://schema.org/Product”>
<img itemprop=”image” src=”image-link.jpg” alt=”Product Name“/>
<span itemprop=”name”>Product Name</span>
<div itemprop=”aggregateRating itemscope itemtype=”http://schema.org/AggregateRating”>
<span itemprop=”ratingValue”>4.5</span>
out of <span itemprop=”bestRating”>5</span>
based on <span itemprop=”ratingCount”>301</span> user ratings.
</div>

Now paste the code on the product page where you like to show stars in the search result. Remember to customize the bolded part of the code to display the data you want to show.

When you are done, make sure you:

  1. Check your work in Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool. By doing this you will be able to know if there’s any mistake in your code.
  2. Submit your XML sitemap again in Google Webmaster tools to ensure the reindexing of your site as soon as possible.
  3. Check your success through an organic search rather than a search site.

2nd Method: Using Widget

If you use pre-made solution you don’t need to wast hour on learning programming and Google review schema. You can use such a solution as Elfsight Reviews Widget. It automatically collects and aggregates testimonials.

The installation and uses of this plugin don’t require any programming skills.

3rd Method: Paid Search Stars

Getting stars on your ads of Google Adwords is one of the most difficult things to achieve. Google is doing this process autonomously and you have very limited control over whether the start appears with your ads or not.

Google uses specifies third-party review sites for determining your star rating. You need at least 30 unique reviews from the past years and the aggregate rating has to be 3.5 or higher.

Here is a few third-party review site that Google recognizes.

  1. Trust pilot
  2. Reevoo
  3. Feefo
  4. Bizrate – through Shopzilla
  5. Reviewcentre.co.uk

As I mentioned earlier, Google handles this process autonomously, therefore it is unlikely but possible to meet all the requirements and still not be able to see stars on your ads.

Conclusion

The review snippets have now become a standard of SEO optimization. Star ratings make your website distinguishable from the crowd. If you are still not using this instrument you are losing traffic. Tell us, if you have implemented review snippets on your website. What other rich snippets you want to use in the future?
