Ever tried creating a table in WordPress only to realize you need some rows or columns to span multiple cells? Merging table cells is more than just aesthetics; it is actually clean, structured data delivery that your readers will appreciate. If you don’t know how to do it, then don’t worry.
In this post, I will show you the steps to merge cells in the WordPress table block.
Let’s dive into the process.
Note: The default WordPress Table Block has no option to merge cells in a table. Here, we will be using the Tableberg plugin to merge cells. It works like the default table block.
Step 1: Install the Tableberg Plugin
From your dashboard, navigate to Plugins -> Add New and search for the ‘Tableberg’ plugin.
After the installation, don’t forget to activate the plugin.
Step 2: Create a Table
Open the page/post where you want to merge cells. Make sure that you have a table, if you don’t have one then create one. Click on the add block button and search for ‘Tableberg’.
Add the block by clicking on it. Create your own table or insert any prebuilt table.
I am inserting a pre-built table.
Step 3: Merge Table Cells Vertically
Hold down the ‘Shift’ key and select the vertical cells that you want to merge together.
Then, from the toolbar option, click on the ‘Merge’ option. The cells you have selected will be merged together.
Step 4: Merge Table Cells Horizontally
In the same way, select the horizontal by holding the shift button and click on the ‘Merge’ option from the toolbar.
In this way, you can merge as many cells as you want to.
Finally, don’t forget to check the preview of the table. Your preview will look somthing like this one below.
