Thrive Leads is a capable lead generation plugin. It has been around for over a decade, it covers every opt-in form type you could want, and it has a proper A/B testing engine built in.
So why do so many people go looking for something else?
Usually it comes down to three things: the price, the renewal price, and the fact that it forces you into its own page builder. If any of those are why you are here, this post is for you.
Below are 10 alternatives worth considering in 2026, ranked by how well they fit the people who are actually leaving Thrive Leads. All pricing was checked against each vendor’s own pricing page in August 2026.
Why People Look for a Thrive Leads Alternative
These are the reasons that come up again and again.
1. The price, and especially the renewal price
Thrive Leads on its own is listed at $199 per year for one website. New customers pay $99 for the first year, but Thrive states clearly on its own pricing page that all renewals are at full price. So year two costs you $199.
The full Thrive Suite is listed at $599 per year for 5 sites, discounted to $299 for the first year. Again, it renews at $599.
For a blogger with one site, paying $199 a year forever just to show opt-in forms is a lot.
2. There is no lifetime option
Thrive sells yearly and quarterly subscriptions only. If your license lapses, your existing forms keep working, but you lose updates, support, and access to the premium templates. There is no way to pay once and be done.
3. There is no free version
You cannot try Thrive Leads before you buy it. There is a 30 day money back guarantee, but that is not the same thing as a free tier you can grow into.
4. It brings its own builder
Thrive Leads uses the Thrive editor, not the WordPress block editor. That means a second interface to learn, and it means your opt-in forms live inside Thrive’s own system rather than as normal WordPress content.
This matters most on the way out. Moving away from Thrive Leads later means rebuilding your forms from scratch.
5. It is now owned by the same company as OptinMonster
Awesome Motive acquired Thrive Themes in January 2023. Awesome Motive also owns OptinMonster, WPForms, All in One SEO, and MonsterInsights.
This is worth knowing, because most “Thrive Leads alternatives” lists put OptinMonster in first place. Switching from Thrive Leads to OptinMonster means staying with the same parent company and, in most cases, paying more.
6. One site on the affordable plan
The $199 standalone license covers a single website. If you run three sites, you are pushed toward the Suite at $599 a year.
What to Look for in a Replacement
Before the list, here is the thinking behind the order. A good Thrive Leads replacement should tick as many of these as possible:
- A real free version, so you can test it on a live site before spending anything.
- No second builder to learn. If it works inside the WordPress block editor, you already know how to use it.
- A one time or lifetime option, or at least pricing that does not double at renewal.
- Email tool connections, so your subscribers land in Mailchimp, ConvertKit, MailerLite, or whichever service you use.
The list below runs in that order: block editor plugins first, then WordPress plugins with their own builder, then tools bundled with a theme or page builder, then hosted (SaaS) services last.
Quick Comparison
Plugin | Best For | Free Version | Builder | Pricing (Pro) |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Popup Maker | The most capable free popup plugin | Yes | Own editor | $99/yr (1 site) |
MailOptin | The closest all in one replacement | Yes | WordPress Customizer | From $99/yr (1 site) |
Hustle | Free exit intent | Yes (capped) | Own editor | WPMU DEV membership |
Icegram Engage | Popups plus bars, ribbons and toasts | Yes | Own editor | $129/yr (1 site) |
Brave | Visual design freedom on a budget | Yes | Own drag and drop | From $59/yr |
Convert Pro | Agencies already inside the Astra ecosystem | No | Own editor | $99/yr |
Bloom | People already paying for Divi | No | Own editor | Elegant Themes membership |
OptinMonster | Businesses that want a full hosted platform | No | Hosted editor | From about $9/mo, billed yearly |
OptiMonk | Ecommerce stores | Yes | Hosted editor | Scales with pageviews |
1. ConvertForce
Best for: anyone who wants popups without learning a second builder
Free Version Yes | Builder WordPress Block Editor | Pro from $49/yr or $149 once |
ConvertForce is a popup plugin built entirely on the WordPress block editor. There is no separate drag and drop canvas to learn. You design a popup the same way you write a blog post, using headings, images, buttons, columns, and any other block you already have.
One thing to know upfront: ConvertForce handles the campaign itself, meaning the popup, the notification bar, or the slide-in. It does not include its own email signup form with built in Mailchimp and ConvertKit connections. Instead, you drop in a form from a form plugin you already use, or a shortcode from your email service. If you want a single plugin that does both jobs, MailOptin at number 3 is the better fit. If you already have a form plugin installed, this is a non issue, and it means you are not locked into anyone’s form system.
ConvertForce gives you three campaign types: notification bars at the top or bottom of the page, lightbox popups, and slide-ins from a corner. Each one comes with ready made patterns so you are not starting from a blank page.
It is also very light. ConvertForce creates no database tables, adds nothing to your options table, and adds roughly 11 KB to your front end per page load. For anyone who moved away from Thrive Leads because of page speed, that is the headline number.
What is free: all three campaign types, the block editor builder, page load and time delay triggers, and standard targeting rules.
What is Pro: exit intent, scroll depth, and user inactivity triggers, display frequency controls, and advanced targeting (37 conditions across 8 categories).
Pricing: free on WordPress.org. ConvertForce Pro Personal is $49 per year or $149 once for up to 10 sites. Professional is $79 per year or $249 once.
Why it beats Thrive Leads on the things people complain about: it has a free version, it uses the editor you already know, the lifetime option costs less than one year of Thrive Leads, and the Personal plan covers 10 sites instead of one.
2. Popup Maker
Best for: the most generous free popup plugin on WordPress.org
Free Version Yes | Active Installs 700,000+ | Pro from $99/yr |
Popup Maker has over 700,000 active installs, which makes it the most used free popup plugin in the WordPress directory. It was last updated in April 2026, so it is under active development.
The free version is not a demo. You get unlimited popups, unlimited impressions, unlimited themes, click and time delay triggers, and a flexible set of conditions for choosing which pages a popup appears on. Plenty of sites never need to upgrade.
The catch is that the two triggers most people want, exit intent and scroll, sit behind the Pro plan. Popup Maker also merged its old add-on system into two plans, so features that used to be bought separately now come bundled.
Pricing: free. Pro is $99 per year for one site (currently discounted to $59.40 for the first year). Pro+ is $249 per year and adds revenue tracking plus WooCommerce and LMS integrations. Multi-site licenses scale up from there.
Worth knowing: the free version lets you paste in a signup form from any email service, so you can capture emails without paying anything.
3. MailOptin
Best for: the closest feature for feature swap
Free Version Yes | Builder WordPress Customizer | Pro from $99/yr |
If you want one plugin that does everything Thrive Leads does, MailOptin is the one. It builds opt-in forms, connects directly to the major email services, runs A/B tests, stores your leads inside WordPress, and can even send newsletters and automated emails on the higher plans.
Forms are built in the WordPress Customizer rather than a separate builder, so it feels closer to native WordPress than most paid options here. You can show forms as popups, notification bars, scroll triggered slide-ins, sidebar widgets, or inline inside your posts.
Its LeadBank feature keeps every submission in your own database along with the referrer and the page the signup came from, which is data most email services will not pass back to you.
Pricing: MailOptin Lite is free on WordPress.org. Standard is $99 per year for one site and covers lead generation only. Pro is $289 per year for 3 sites and adds email automation and newsletters. Agency is $499 per year for unlimited sites. There is also a lifetime Pro license at $999.
Be honest with yourself about the maths: Standard at $99 a year for one site is not much cheaper than Thrive Leads at $199, and it does less on that tier. The real saving is the free Lite version, which is a working product. Start there.
4. Hustle
Best for: free exit intent
Free Version Yes | Active Installs 90,000+ | Pro from WPMU DEV membership |
Hustle comes from WPMU DEV, the team behind Smush and Hummingbird. It has over 90,000 active installs and a 4.4 star rating.
Its standout feature is that Smart Exit Intent ships in the free version. Almost every other plugin on this list charges for that. If exit intent is the one feature you cannot live without and your budget is zero, Hustle is the answer.
You can build popups, slide-ins, embedded forms, and social share bars, with a decent set of templates and connections to Mailchimp, HubSpot, Constant Contact, and others.
The limit is on quantity. The free version caps you at 3 popups, 3 slide-ins, 3 embeds, and 3 social share bars. For a blog that is usually enough. For a store running several seasonal campaigns at once, you will hit the ceiling.
Pricing: free, with the caps above. Removing the caps means subscribing to the full WPMU DEV membership rather than buying a Hustle license on its own. If you only want Hustle, that model is awkward. If you also want their backup, security, and performance plugins, it starts to add up.
5. Icegram Engage
Best for: popups plus every other kind of on-site message
Free Version Yes | Active Installs 20,000+ | Pro from $129/yr |
Icegram Engage is not only a popup plugin. It also does header and footer bars, ribbons, toast notifications, slide-ins, and inline messages, all from one dashboard. If you want a free shipping bar, a seasonal announcement ribbon, and a newsletter popup without installing three plugins, this is a good fit.
It has around 20,000 active installs and a 4.7 star rating.
The other thing in its favour is that it does not charge you more as your traffic grows. Hosted tools usually price by pageviews, so a busy blog gets pushed up the tiers. Icegram does not work that way.
The interface is functional rather than polished, and exit intent is a paid feature.
Pricing: free Starter plan. Pro is $129 per year for one site and adds exit intent, advanced targeting, and more themes. Max is $229 per year for up to 3 sites and adds A/B testing and geo targeting.
6. Brave Popup Builder
Best for: design freedom on a small budget
Free Version Yes | Active Installs 20,000+ | Pro from $59/yr |
Brave has the nicest visual editor of the free plugins on this list. It is a proper drag and drop canvas, and it holds a 4.8 star rating across roughly 20,000 installs.
If your main frustration with Thrive Leads is the price rather than the builder, and you actually liked having a visual canvas, Brave gives you a similar experience for a fraction of the cost. It also handles multi-step popups, quizzes, and WooCommerce specific campaigns.
The trade-off is that it is a smaller product from a smaller team, so the ecosystem around it (documentation, tutorials, third party guides) is thinner than Popup Maker’s.
Pricing: free version available. Brave Pro starts at $59 per year, with higher tiers for more sites and more features. There is a 30 day money back guarantee.
7. Convert Pro
Best for: agencies already using Astra and the Brainstorm Force ecosystem
Free Version No | Builder Own canvas editor | Pro from $99/yr |
Convert Pro comes from Brainstorm Force, the team behind the Astra theme and Spectra. It has a full drag and drop editor with a free canvas, multi-step forms, yes/no popups, content lockers, A/B testing, and behavioural triggers.
It is a well built plugin, and at $99 per year for unlimited sites it is good value if you manage a lot of client websites.
One caveat you should know before buying. Convert Pro is still receiving updates, but looking at the public changelog, every release since mid 2025 has been maintenance work: security checks, library updates, small bug fixes. Version 1.8.10 in April 2026 was an internal library update. Version 1.8.9 in March 2026 was a code quality pass. There have been no new features for a long time.
That is not the same as abandoned. It is a plugin in maintenance mode. If you want something being actively pushed forward, look higher up this list.
Pricing: $99 per year, unlimited sites. There is no free version, which means you cannot try it before paying, the same complaint people have about Thrive Leads.
8. Bloom
Best for: people who already pay for Divi
Free Version No | Sold Only inside the Elegant Themes membership | Pro from $89/yr |
Bloom is Elegant Themes’ opt-in plugin. It offers popups, fly-ins, inline forms, below-post forms, widget forms, and content lockers, with a large library of pre-made designs and connections to most major email services. It has a built in dashboard showing impressions, conversions, and conversion rates, plus A/B testing.
The important thing to understand in 2026 is that you cannot buy Bloom on its own. It comes bundled with the Elegant Themes membership, alongside Divi, Extra, and Monarch.
That is fine if you are already a Divi user. If you are not, you would be paying for a page builder and two themes you do not need in order to get an opt-in plugin. And Bloom is not the fastest option on this list.
Pricing: included with the Elegant Themes membership, which is $89 per year or $249 once, both covering unlimited sites.
9. OptinMonster
Best for: businesses that want a full hosted conversion platform
Free Version No | Hosting Hosted, runs off their servers | Pro from About $9/mo, billed yearly |
OptinMonster is the biggest name in this category and it is a genuinely powerful tool. Lightbox popups, floating bars, inline forms, slide-ins, fullscreen mats, content lockers, gamified wheels, detailed analytics, A/B testing, and one of the deepest targeting systems available.
Because it is hosted, most of its work happens on OptinMonster’s servers rather than yours. Very little is added to your own site, which is good for page speed.
Two things to weigh up.
First, as noted at the top of this post, OptinMonster and Thrive Leads are both owned by Awesome Motive. Moving from one to the other is not really leaving.
Second, the pricing works differently from a plugin licence. Plans start at around $9 per month billed annually, but each tier has a monthly pageview cap and a site cap, and exit intent (the feature OptinMonster is most known for) only unlocks on the Pro tier. First term discounts also renew at full price. If your traffic grows, your bill grows.
Pricing: paid only, no free version. Check the current tiers on their pricing page, as they change often.
10. OptiMonk
Best for: ecommerce stores
Free Version Yes | Hosting Hosted, runs off their servers | Pricing Scales with pageviews |
OptiMonk is another hosted tool, and it leans harder into ecommerce than anything else on this list. Cart abandonment popups, discount offers, multi-step overlays, product recommendations, and AI assisted campaign creation.
It has a free plan that is usable for a small site, and its targeting and segmentation are strong. If you run a WooCommerce or Shopify store and want revenue reporting alongside your popups, it is worth a look.
For a blogger who only wants an email signup form, it is more tool than you need.
Pricing: free plan available. Paid plans scale with your monthly pageviews.
Plugins We No Longer Recommend
These appeared in older versions of this post and in most other roundups. They should not be on your shortlist in 2026.
- Ninja Popups. For years this was the best selling popup plugin on CodeCanyon. Its product page now returns an error and the item has been removed from the marketplace. Do not buy it from third party resellers.
- WP Subscribe Pro. MyThemeShop has moved its focus to Rank Math. The plugin has not seen meaningful development in a long time.
- BDOW! (formerly Sumo). The WordPress plugin has not been updated in around a year, and active installs have dropped from over 20,000 to around 10,000. It is also a hosted service with a connector plugin, not a self contained WordPress plugin, so your forms depend on their servers staying up.
Which One Should You Pick?
- You are comfortable with the block editor and want something light and cheap. Go with ConvertForce. The lifetime licence costs less than a single year of Thrive Leads, and you already know the interface.
- You want the full Thrive Leads feature set in one plugin. Go with MailOptin. Start on the free Lite version and upgrade only if you need it.
- You want the best free option and nothing more. Go with Popup Maker. Its free version does more than most paid plugins.
- You need exit intent and cannot spend anything. Go with Hustle.
- You already pay for Divi. Use Bloom, since you already own it.
- You run an online store and want revenue reporting. Look at OptiMonk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a free Thrive Leads alternative?
Yes, several. ConvertForce, Popup Maker, MailOptin Lite, Hustle, Icegram Engage, and Brave all have free versions on WordPress.org. Thrive Leads itself has no free version.
Does Thrive Leads have a lifetime deal?
No. Thrive sells yearly and quarterly subscriptions only. If you want to pay once, look at ConvertForce ($149 or $249), MailOptin Pro Lifetime ($999), or the Elegant Themes lifetime membership ($249) if you also want Divi.
Can I move my existing Thrive Leads forms to another plugin?
Not automatically. Thrive Leads forms are built in Thrive’s own format, so there is no import tool that carries them across. You will need to rebuild them. The good news is that most people only run two or three forms, and rebuilding is quicker than it sounds.
Is OptinMonster cheaper than Thrive Leads?
It depends on your traffic. OptinMonster’s entry tier is cheaper than Thrive Leads on paper, but it caps monthly pageviews and locks exit intent to a higher tier. A busy site can end up paying more than $199 a year. Also worth remembering: both products are owned by Awesome Motive.
Do I need a separate form plugin?
It depends which tool you pick. MailOptin, Bloom, Convert Pro, OptinMonster, and OptiMonk include their own signup forms and email service connections. ConvertForce and Popup Maker are display tools, so you drop in a form from a form plugin or paste in the form code from your email service.
Will these plugins slow down my site?
Self hosted plugins load their assets from your own server, so weight varies a lot between them. ConvertForce is the lightest on this list at around 11 KB per page load. Hosted tools like OptinMonster and OptiMonk put almost nothing on your server but load a script from their own network instead. Neither approach is automatically better, but if speed is your main reason for leaving Thrive Leads, check the numbers before you commit.
Final Thoughts
Thrive Leads is not a bad plugin. It is an expensive one that assumes you want to live inside the Thrive ecosystem.
If that is not you, the good news is that you no longer have to pay $199 a year to show an opt-in form. There are free plugins that do the job well, block editor tools that skip the learning curve entirely, and lifetime licences that cost less than one year of Thrive.
Start with a free version. Run it for a month. Upgrade only when you hit a wall.
Which one are you going to try? Let me know in the comments.
