In a website, every portion has its own importance. Similarly, the footer shows your branding information with copyright texts. If you want to edit or remove footer credits you can do it with a few steps. Removing or changing copyright texts allows you to establish your own branding on your site.

In today’s post, I will show you how to remove footer credits in WordPress. All you have to do is follow this post to the very last. Afterward, you will be able to remove footer credits all on your own.

Let’s do this.

How To Remove Footer Credits In WordPress

There are several; ways to remove footer credits from the WordPress site. But I recommend two ways to do it.

Remove Footer Credits With Theme Editor

Make sure you are logged in to your WordPress admin dashboard. At first navigate to Appearance -> Theme Editor -> Theme Footer(footer.php). You will find Theme Footer on the right side of the themes file list.

It is recommended that you don’t bring changes directly here. Instead, you should follow these practices

  1. Create a child theme and apply changes to the corresponding child theme’s footer file.
  2. Create a backup file of your theme files. In case anything goes wrong you will be able to revert changes.
  3. Another safe way is the comment code in footer.php. In this way, you won’t have to remove any existing lines of code.

Now search for credentials lines like ‘powered by WordPress’. Remove the line or bring changes as you like.

Thats all to remove footer credits with theme editor.

But sometimes you may no find such codes in the footer.php. In that case you should use customizer.

Remove Footer Credits With Customizer

Another way is to remove the footer credits is using the customizer. With the help of the customizer you will be able to apply changes to your footer by watching live.

To remove footer credits with customizer, at first login to your admin dashboard. Now navigate to Appearance -> Customize.

Depending on your theme, you will find footer setting in the left sidebar. Click on the Footer and it will take you to a page weather you will be able to edit footer.

Anything you change at here will be update instantly on the preview pane. Search for copyright text in footer settings. Once you find it remove it or place your desired copyright text. I am using Astra theme at here.

You can bring changes as you require and don’t forget to hit update when you are done.

Conclusion

If you are a beginner it is recommended to edit footer by using customizer, as there is no coding knowledge required. But if you know how to code then its better to edit footer with theme editor.
