In a website, every portion has its own importance. Similarly, the footer shows your branding information with copyright texts. If you want to edit or remove footer credits you can do it with a few steps. Removing or changing copyright texts allows you to establish your own branding on your site.

In today’s post, I will show you how to remove footer credits in WordPress. All you have to do is follow this post to the very last. Afterward, you will be able to remove footer credits all on your own. There are several ways to remove footer credits from the WordPress site. I am describing one by one.

Let’s do this.

The best method to remove the footer is to ‘remove it with the editor’. This method is very easy and recommended.

Step #1: Open Editor

From your dashboard, navigate to Appearance -> Editor.

Now click on Patterns.

Scroll below and click on the Footer from the ‘Template Parts’.

Click on the template part.

Now edit it.

Step #3: Remove Footer Credit

Now, edit the footer as you require, if you wish you can delete it.

The Whole Process at Once:

If you like, you can see the whole process at once from below.

Make sure you are logged in to your WordPress admin dashboard. First, navigate to Appearance -> Theme File Editor -> Theme Footer(footer.php). You will find Theme Footer on the right side of the themes file list.

It is recommended that you don’t bring changes directly here. Instead, you should follow these practices.

  1. Create a child theme and apply changes to the corresponding child theme’s footer file.
  2. Create a backup file of your theme files. In case anything goes wrong, you will be able to revert changes.
  3. Another safe way is the comment code in footer.php. In this way, you won’t have to remove any existing lines of code.

Now search for credentials lines like ‘Powered by WordPress’. Remove the line or bring changes as you like.

That’s all to remove footer credits with the theme editor.

But sometimes, you may not find such codes in the footer.php. In that case, you should use customizer.

Another way to remove the footer credits is by using the customizer. With the help of the customizer, you will be able to apply changes to your footer by watching live.

To remove footer credits with the customizer, first log in to your admin dashboard. Now navigate to Appearance -> Customize

Depending on your theme, you will find the footer setting in the left sidebar. Click on the Footer, and it will take you to a page where you will be able to edit the footer.

Anything you change here will be updated instantly on the preview pane. Search for copyright text in footer settings. Once you find it remove it or place your desired copyright text. I am using the Astra theme here.

You can bring changes as required, and don’t forget to hit update when you are done.

Conclusion

If you are a beginner, it is recommended to edit the footer by using customizer, as there is no coding knowledge required. But if you know how to code, then it’s better to edit the footer with the theme editor.
