What is the Query Loop Block
The Query Loop block is an advanced block. It lets you show posts according to specified parameters, much like a PHP loop without the need to code. Think of it as an enhanced and more powerful Latest Posts Block. With several block patterns integrated into its setup, you could do such things as create a portfolio or even a page full of your favorite recipes.
Using Query Loop Block
The query loop block consists of several subblocks. With the query loop block, you can showcase your post, pages almost instantly.
Adding Query Loop Block
To add a Query Loop block, click on the ‘Add Block’ button and search for ‘Query Loop’.
Insert the block by clicking on it. Then, you can choose from available templates or Start blank.
Choose the variation you want. There are a total of four variations, including ‘Title & Date’, ‘Title & Excerpt,’ ‘Title, Date & Excerpt’, and ‘Image, Date & Title’. You can choose any of these variations.
As soon as you click on any variation, it will be applied to your display. Here, I have clicked on ‘Image, Date & Title’.
Choosing a Layout
If you like to change the layout of your Query block, then you will be able to do it. You can display content in a list format or a grid format.
Just select the post template in the list view that is nested within the Query Loop block.
Then, from the toolbar abov,e choose between list and grid icons. If you select grid, your contents will be shown in a grid, and you will be able to adjust the number of columns in the grid in the block settings sidebar.
Customizing the Query Loop Block
If you like to customize the Query Loop block, then select the block and open block settings.
From here, you will be able to adjust inner blocks, post type, order, sticky post, and display options.
If you like to customize the query loop block globally, then navigate to Appearance -> Editor -> Templates and open any template that you want to customize.
Then, from the navigator, find the query block and customize as you wish. You can choose a custom query type and select pages instead of posts as the query.
Sub Blocks of Query Loop Block
When you insert query loop block, you will also find other sub-blocks grouped together. You will find the word ‘post’ in their names, but you will be able to apply those to other content like pages, products, portfolio items, etc.
The sub-blocks found in the Query Loop block are
Post Author Biography: As the name says, you will be able to show the author bio within the query loop with this block.
Pagination: Pagination helps you to display links to your next or previous posts. It consists of three separate blocks, ‘Previous, Page numbers, and Next’.
Post Title: It displays the title of each post. If you wish, you can change the title into a link.
Post Date: It shows the published date of your content. You will be able to change the default format and add a link to a post within the settings.
Post Content: With this block, you will be able to show all the content from your post/page within the Query loop block.
Post Featured Image: It lets you show the featured image attached to the post/page.
Post Excerpt: With the excerpt, your visitor will be able to view the summary of your content.
Post Categories: The post categories block can display the category of your posts inside the Query loop block.
Post Tags: It’s a very useful block that allows you to display similar content.
Post Author: If you like to showcase author details, then you will be able to do it with this block.
