The WordPress Embed block is a default Gutenberg block. It lets you embed a wide range of content from other websites and platforms into your WordPress posts and pages just by copy-pasting source links into the block.
The WordPress Bmbed block supports embedding content from various sources, including YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Facebook, and more. As a result, you can showcase content, like images and videos, to visitors without uploading them to your website.
It’s great if you are curious about the embed block. This article will cover a detailed guide on how to use the WordPress Embed block.
How to Use the WordPress Embed Block
There are several steps involved in using the WordPress Embed block. Let’s explore them step-by-step in the following parts.
Step 01: Add the Embed Block to Your WordPress Post or Page
Open your desired post or page where you want to add the embed block. Hitting the Plus (+) icon opens the Gutenberg editor. Type Embed in the search box. When the Embed block appears, click on it.
Once the block is added, you’ll see a URL placeholder on it. Now, you have to get the URL of the content you want to embed into the block.
Step 02: Add Content URL to the Embed Block
We already mentioned four platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, and Facebook) that the WordPress embed block supports. The block also supports Instagram, SoundCloud, Pinterest, Flickr, Slideshare, TED Talks, Spotify, and Google Maps.
For the tutorial, we’ll embed content from YouTube. You can see a snapshot of a YouTube video in the image below. We are copying the URL from the top.
Come back to the WordPress post/page. Paste the URL on the placeholder and hit the Embed button.
Step 03: Configure Settings and Stylizations
Once you select the block again, a toolbar will appear on the embedded video content. You can set alignment, move up/down, change the URL, copy, duplicate, and delete the content from the toolbar options.
Come to the right sidebar after that. Toggling on the Resize for smaller devices option, you can set a command that the video will be automatically resized on smaller devices based on aspect ratio.
Go to the Style tab after that. From here, you can modify the Margin settings for the embedded content.
Thus, you can add the WordPress embed block and fully utilize it.
Conclusion
We have seen that many WordPress users still don’t know there is a block called Embed and what can be done with it. As a result, they tend to take screenshots of important Facebook posts or text content and then upload them as images to WordPress.
In the case of video content, they first download the file to a local drive and then upload it to WordPress. This only results in wasted hosting space. Using the WordPress embed block can save hosting space and uphold user experience simultaneously.
