Take a look at this post, for example.

In this post, I wanted to mention something that we’ve all probably tried before – those popular BuzzFeed quizzes. They’re catchy, relatable, and lead you down a series of questions that hook you in with little effort. And since I know that these quizzes are highly popular, I figured it would be a great way to establish common ground with my readers. 

When picking questions for your blogs, it’s essential to consider the universal appeal of the topic. Make sure the issues you bring up are relatable to readers from all over the world. This way, your content will have a wider reach and truly add value to readers from all backgrounds. To achieve this, it’s essential to do thorough research and choose commonly experienced topics regardless of location.

An important fact to remember: Readers are always seeking connection. Connection comes from relatability. When you ask a question or bring up a topic that resonates with them, you instantly create a sense of common ground. This is a great way to connect with your readers and keep them engaged in your content.

2. Start With An Interesting Fact or Statistic

Kind of an alarming number, isn’t it? For bloggers and writers, the average human’s exponentially dwindling attention span is truly something to worry about. This makes it even more critical to step up our game and utilize cool tricks to increase readability. 

This brings me to my second point. Humans LOVE numbers and statistics. Adding a stat to your content establishes your credibility and tells your readers that you’ve done your homework on the subject. 

If your stats can evoke an emotional reaction from your readers—congrats, you’ve got their attention! However, this method should be used strategically at your discretion. You risk creating clickbait content with no actual value if you overdo it. 

For example, in an article about employee mental health, an alarming statistic like this could add shock value- “A whopping 85% of workers are disengaged from their jobs.” – Gallup

Remember, your goal is to get readers more invested in your topic. Think of your content from a reader’s perspective— the key is to strike a balance between providing valuable information and engaging your readers.

3. Start with a Promise

Starting your blog posts with a promise helps readers set expectations for the content you’ve laid ahead. 

When writing your introduction, you must consider who your audience is and their struggles. You want to talk directly to them and promise the solution they’re searching for. This way, you’ll catch their eye and keep them interested in reading more.

Here’s the thing, though. Don’t make promises that you can’t keep! Make sure to keep your promises specific and on point. That way, your readers will feel motivated to read on and find the solution to their problem.

For example, if you wrote a blog post about how to make a cake that’s soft and delicious, your introduction could say something like, “Get ready to learn the secret to making a cake that’s not only delicious but also so soft, it melts in your mouth!” And then, of course, make sure your post delivers on that promise by giving specific and practical tips.

Your ultimate goal is to provide value to your readers and leave them satisfied with the information they’ve received. So, make your promises carefully and deliver them!

4. Start With Addressing The Problem

Starting your blog post focusing on people’s problems is a great way to write. This is called the Pain-Agitate-Solution (PAS) framework. By writing about people’s problems, you will grab their attention, connect with them, and make them want to take action. You can then offer them a solution to their problem that they will be eager to try.

By mentioning your readers’ everyday struggles, you’re showing them that you understand what they’re going through. It’s like shining a light at the end of a dark tunnel and letting them know there’s a way out. They’ll feel a sense of relief and trust that you’re the right person to help them solve their problems.

Let’s say you’re writing a blog post about stress management. In your introduction, you can mention common stress struggles like feeling overwhelmed, trouble sleeping, and struggling to focus at work. Acknowledging these pains shows understanding and offers practical tips to help your readers. This creates an engaging post that provides value and helps relieve the pains mentioned—boosting your credibility in the long run.

5. Start With A Story or Your Experience

This is the best one I can share from my own experience. Starting a blog with a story or sharing your experiences is a fantastic way to connect with your readers personally. People love feeling understood and helped, but they also love feeling like they’re part of a community. 

By sharing your own stories and experiences in your blog, you can create a strong bond with your readers and keep them hooked. It’s a win-win – they get to know the real you, and you get to connect with your audience in a meaningful way!

Let’s say you’re starting a blog about healthy eating and want to share your journey with readers. You could start your first post with a story about how you struggled with unhealthy eating habits but eventually discovered the benefits of a balanced diet. 

By sharing your personal story, you immediately connect with your reader and show them that you understand their struggles. They’ll be more likely to keep reading, learn from your experience, and feel like they’re part of a supportive community. So, instead of just presenting facts and tips, start with a story and see how your readers react!
